The unreal Castles of Vojvodina
Autonomous Province of Vojvodina belongs to central Europe – both by its natural borders and in spirit. It covers the south-eastern part and lowest parts of the vast Pannonian Basin, and northern parts of republic of Serbia, spreading on 21.506km², with population slightly exceeding 2 million people. Novi Sad is the capital of the Province. Geographically, it is split into three regions, Srem, Banat and Backa (represented on the coat of arms of Vojvodina, as yellow stars on the flag) .
Departure from hotel in Belgrade. You will meet your tour guide around 09.00h. Our first stop will be at Castle Ecka – established in 1820 by Lazar Agoston and on the opening of the castle Franz Liszt was the main music entertainment. The castle was a place of gathering for enthusiasts of hunting from all around the world. Frequent guests were princes Franz Ferdinand and Aleksandar Karadjordjevic. Our journey continues to castle Sokolac – Lazar Dundjerski has built it in the 19th century. Today the castle is in a poor state and it is not opened for visitors, but inside it still has original belongings of the family Dundjerski, from the period when they used to live there. In 2001 it was proclaimed a cultural monument and they are raising funds to restore it to its former glory. We will have a brake in Novi Becej for lunch and individual needs. Next, we will visit castle Fantast – it was built by Bogdan Dundjerski. On the estate beside the castle there is a stable with horses, park with a lake, a chapel where Bogdan Dundjerski is buried. Next, we will travel to castle Dundjerski–untill World War II it belonged to family Dundjerski. Over the years a lot of esteemed figures such as Nikola Tesla and Paja Jovanovic used to visit the castle. In this castle Laza Kostic meet the love of his life Lenka Dundjerski and that is the place where he wrote Santa Maria de la Salute, a song that he dedicated to her. Lunch break (optionally). Free time. We will return to Belgrade in late afternoon hours.
