After the fortress tour, we will go to the archaeological site of Viminacijum, where are remains of the capital of the Roman province of Upper Mezia and the Legion camp. The present discovery has confirmed the particular importance of Viminacium as the leading Roman metropolis on this part of the Danube limes. It is a medieval fortress, located in the National Park Đerdap, on the right bank of the Danube, 4 km downstream from today’s settlement. It is located on high cliffs, on the spot where the river narrows, at the entrance to the Đerdasks gorge. From Golubac we continue down the Danube main road and after half-driveway we arrive at Lepenski vir – the oldest organized settlement in Europe.
